Pylon signs are the highway-visible, pole-mounted identification signs that pull customers off the road and into the lot. Walton engineers, permits, and installs single-tenant and multi-tenant pylons across the country.
What it is
A pylon is a tall, freestanding sign supported by one or more steel poles, with an illuminated cabinet at the top carrying the brand identity (and, for multi-tenant pads, additional reader panels).
Typical use cases
- Highway-visible retail pad sites
- Fuel and convenience-store stations
- Auto dealerships
- Multi-tenant retail centers
Materials & construction
- Structural steel pole(s) engineered to wind load
- Aluminum sign cabinet with internal LEDs
- Acrylic faces or routed metal with push-thru graphics
- Optional digital EMC (electronic message center) section
- Reinforced concrete foundation
Installation
Pylon installation requires a crane, traffic control, and an engineered foundation. Walton coordinates the structural drawings, foundation, crane day, and any required road-lane closures.
Permitting
Most jurisdictions cap pylon height and area, and many require a separate structural permit. Walton's permit specialists run the height-and-area math against the local sign code before fabrication so the design doesn't have to be redrawn after submittal.
